Day one of Istanbul 2023 gave us plenty of drama and excitement from start to finish.
On the first full day of the competition at the European Athletics Indoor Championships, we saw the first medals being won as well as plenty of incredible moments.
Nafissatou Thiam and Adrianna Sulek had a sensational battle in the final event of the women’s pentathlon. Both produced World Record performances, but it was Thiam who would prevail, claiming a hard-fought gold medal.
The phenomenal Jakob Ingebrigtsen set a new Championship Record, retaining his 1500m crown despite a strong challenge from Neil Gourley.
the women’s Pentathlon reached its thrilling conclusion with a World Record being broken by Nafissatou Thiam.
Pedro Pichardo was untouchable in the men’s triple jump final, winning his second consecutive indoor title with an unbelievable jump.
It came down to the final lap in women’s 3000m, as Germany’s Hanna Klein overtook fellow countrywoman Konstanze Klosterhalfen to win a well-deserved gold medal.
