The Hallesche Werfertage Throwing Cup will take place in Germany on the June 1st and 2nd and you’ll be able to watch live action from the event on our website here.
The German team have announced a plethora of talent for the Cup, with the ladies discus team led by 2nd, 3rd and 4th place finishers at last year’s European Championships on home soil. Denied the gold by Croatian Sandra Perkovic in 2018, Nadine Müller, Shanice Craft and Claudine Vita are back on home turf in search for glory.
The men’s shot put looks to be filled with world-class talent, including 2018 European bronze medallist, David Storl. Although, he’ll be up against forth place finisher in Rio, Franck Elemba, the Congolese record holder. More African talent comes in the form of South African Orazio Cremona. The eight-time South African champion increased his best performance a few days ago at the national championships to 21.51m. US champion Darell Hill has also confirmed his attendance. He’s already set the bar high in his 2019 season with a throw of 21.72m.
2015 World discus champion Denia Caballero of Cuba is a competition regular and will take part again in 2019. Last year’s winner in the discus, Yang Chen of China is back again in 2019, joined by her team mates Xinyue Su and Bin Feng. Chen took the title in 2018 with a fabulous 66.56m throw. Also in the discus, 2016 Olympic silver medallist, Mélina Robert-Michon will compete in Halle for the first time as well. There is also New Zealand interest, with Commonwealth Games champion Kathrin Mitchell set to compete.
In the men’s hammer, American and current world number three, Sean Donnelly, has confirmed. Just last week in Tucson, Arizona, he threw over 77m for the first time, setting a new lifetime best of 77.59m. But he’ll be up against fellow American Connor McCullough, who has thrown over 77m multiple times in the past.
The timetable has not been fixed for this year as yet, but will follow a similar format to last year, and example of the key Senior events for Saturday afternoon is shown here:
