World indoor 60m champion Richard Kilty has stated that his search for a coach is “getting a bit ridiculous”.
The Great Britain sprinter has been without a coach for almost a year now and has expressed that going to the 2016 Rio Olympic games without one is becoming a worrying prospect.
“It is getting a bit ridiculous,” he said to Athletics Weekly (AW), “I am a bit concerned going into Olympic year but there’s no one I can say ‘this is my coach'”
Following the interview with AW, Kilty has no problems with the standard of potential coaches, stating on Facebook that “There are plenty of world class sprint coaches in the UK…the problem is finding the right set up, group & programme that would suit me”.
Despite his indoor achievements, Kilty has had a frustrating outdoor season on the track, failing to make the final of the 100 metres at the IAAF World Championships in Beijing and also being disqualified in the World Championship relays and in the 100m heats at the London Anniversary games.
The 26 year old has mainly put this down to injuries, stating that “I had a good indoor season, but outdoors I had a few injuries. I need someone to give me a bit of guidance to avoid injuries”.
However, he still remains positive for the upcoming 2016 Olympic Games and 2017 IAAF World Championships, suggesting that “I could be heading into my biggest years as an athlete”.
“It’s going to be a very big two years, and I’m looking forward to competing at the highest level and enjoying myself. It’s going to be an amazing journey.”
