Chijindu Ujah finished second behind Olympic medallist Richard Thompson at the FBK Games in Hengelo on Sunday, clocking a huge personal best of 9.96 seconds to move him to 3rd on the UK all time list.

The Enfield and Haringey AC athlete also set a British Under-23 record and moved to the top of the UK rankings this year. His time has been bettered only by 1992 Olympic Champion Linford Christie and James Dasaolu who made his breakthrough at the British Trials last year.

Ujah had been progressing well this season with a wind assisted 10.14 in the Great Manchester Games followed by a legal 10.17 at the Loughborough International the next day. Fellow Brits Harry Aikines-Aryeetey (10.08 =PB) and James Ellington (10.19) finished 5th and 9th respectively.

Olympic Champion Greg Rutherford recorded 8.24m in the long jump and followed it up with a 10.44 clocking in the 100m later in the competition.

Scot Laura Muir also impressed in Hengelo, finishing second in the 1500m with a personal best time of 4:02.91. Lynsey Sharp also ran a personal best of 2:00.09 to finish 4th in the 800m, closely followed by Jenny Meadows (2:00.51).
