Track star McColgan enjoys birthday backing

One of Scotland’s brightest young athletes is being backed in her quest for Commonwealth and Olympic glory by an award-winning law firm.

Lindsays today announced its sponsorship of Eilish McColgan, 3000 metre steeplechaser and daughter of former 10,000 metres world champion Liz McColgan.

Eilish, regarded as one of the rising female track stars of Scottish and UK athletics, celebrates her 23rd birthday today – November 25th.

Ian Beattie, Chief Operating Officer of Lindsays – and also Chairman of Scottish Athletics – said: “Lindsays is delighted to offer backing to a dedicated and talented athlete with great potential at a time when she is pushing on to even greater things in an already significant career.

“At Lindsays we pride ourselves on offering professional and practical support, help and advice to individuals throughout their journey through life. It is therefore fitting that we should be able to support Eilish at an important point in her career.”

Eilish, the British champion at her distance, is focused on next year’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, where she will compete for Scotland. She said: “The competition in my own event will be intense, with some of the world’s toughest competitors taking part from Commonwealth nations in Africa and elsewhere.

“I am working hard for the Games, and further ahead for the 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil. To prepare for these events now means that athletes need the help and support of sponsorship, so it is tremendous that Lindsays have stepped forward to help me.”

After defending her British title this summer, Eilish returned from injury to secure a personal best of 9.35.82 in the heats of the 3000 metres steeplechase at the World Championships in Moscow and went on to be placed 10th in the final.
