Junior Taylor Campbell took the British junior record in the Hammer today with a best throw of 76.81m at the BUCS trials event in Loughborough.
His new record betters the old one by a mere 14cm, throwing further than the old record twice in the same competition. After making the final of the World Junior Championships in Oregon last year, Campbell showed his talent on the world stage.
In spite of throwing a new national record, Campbell still felt there was room for improvement. “I have been struggling to find consistency over the last six weeks in training and had to spend a lot of time working out where it is going wrong” he said.

He went on to say, “The conditions were okay but I definitely feel I can produce something bigger on the perfect day. Technically I believe i’m far from my best. I feel there is much more to come this season.”
“British Hammer is going really well at the moment, so for me to make the podium in Sweden at the European junior championships later on this year would be a step in the right direction for the event”.
His throw qualifies him for the European juniors later this year.
This record comes after Campbell threw a British age 17 record last year at the English Schools Championships of 74.42.
