Tiffany Porter rounded off an already superb outdoor season with a new national record at the Continental Cup yesterday (September 14).
The 26-year-old set the tone for her glittering summer season with World Indoor Championship bronze in Sopot, in March, and continued to deliver that form into the summer months.
Having defended her British Athletics UK Championships crown in June, Porter returned from the Commonwealth Games with a superb silver medal round her neck, in a time of 12.80 seconds, second to none other than Sally Pearson.
Two weeks later and the national record holder made her way to the top of the rostrum with a fine performance in Zurich at the European Championships. Porter’s 12.76 second dash saw her outdo rivals Cindy Billaud and Cindy Roleder to take European glory.
After a demanding season contesting in two major championships, the British champion showed no signs of fatigue in Marrakesh yesterday as she crossed the line in a blistering 12.51 seconds.
Porter smashed the previous national record by 0.04 seconds, which was set by Jessica Ennis-Hill at the 2012 London Olympics.
The Rana Reider-coached athlete took to Twitter to air her exhilaration: “I am absolutely over the moon right now! I couldn’t have asked for a better way to end my season than with a new NR! What a year #Allsmiles.”
Adding:
I’m so grateful for the kind messages too. Thanks so much for the support guys! Shout out to @tracnut for coaching me to my BEST season! 🙂
