The crowd at Hayward Field will be treated to an all-star field, as the Diamond League rolls back into Eugene for the Prefontaine Classic.
Spread over two days, the main attraction on Friday will undoubtedly be Mo Farah competing in the 10,000m.
In Diamond League action, Olympic Champion David Storl and 2014 DL Champion Piotr Malachowski will be competing in the Shot Put and Discus respectively.
Saturday will see the sprinters take centre stage. The women’s 100m features an all-star cast of fleet-footed females such as Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Carmelita Jeter, Blessing Okagbare-Ighotguonor, Torie Bowie and Elaine Thompson.
Though not Diamond League event, the men’s race is packed full of quality. European Champion James Dasaolu will be competing in only his fourth ever Diamond League event as the continent’s sole representative.
Kim Collins has shown no signs of slowing and the veteran will most likely baffle everyone again with his speed at the tender age of 39.
Tyson Gay, Mike Rodgers and Ryan Bailey of the winning US Men’s IAAF World Relay team will relish performing in front of home crowd.
The fourth member of that gold medal-winning side and defending Eugene champion Justin Gatlin is competing in the 200m, looking to beat the likes of Nickel Ashmede.
400m Olympic Champion Kiranyi James tasted victory in Eugune 12 months ago but lost the League to LaShawn Merritt. Both race on Saturday.
2014 110mh DL champion Pascal Martinot-Lagarde is set to go head-to-head with Olympic Champion Aries Merritt and Shanghai winner David Oliver.
The exploits of Olympic champion Renaud Lavillenie could overshadow anything that happens on the track. Last year’s winner will be looking to put down a marker in his first Diamond League appearance of the season.
Also looking to reach new heights in the Classic is Mutaz Essa Barshim, who will look to defend his 2014 high jump title.
In British interest, long jumper Shara Proctor will be looking to reclaim the overall title she won in 2013, while Lynsey Sharp runs in the 800m.
Hannah England will face stiff competition in the women’s 1500m from defending DL champion Jenniefer Simpson and Sifan Hassan, who finished second in Doha earlier in the month.
