British Athletics Head Coach, Peter Eriksson has announced he will step down in June, after succeeding Charles Van Commenee just 8 months ago.
The 60 year old has said the sudden departure is for family reasons.
The Swede, a former speed skater and former Coach of the GB Paralympic squad has described the role he is stepping down from as ‘a dream position’.
In a statement he expressed what a difficult decision it was to leave his post after such a short tenure.
“Words cannot describe how disappointed I am to take this step,” he said.
“Athletics in Great Britain receives the best possible support through the National Lottery, and that, coupled with the performance structure here means it is every coach’s dream to hold this position.”
“However no job is more important than family and children, and personal circumstances means that mine need me to be back in Canada.”
Eriksson will continue until late June, while remaining in charge for the European Team Championships held this year in Gateshead on 22nd and 23rd June.
Neil Black, Performance Director, will replace Eriksson for the remainder of the track season, including the World Championships in Moscow in August.
