The Welsh Athletics Indoor Championships are live from Cardiff this weekend and you can watch the action from 10am UK time on this page of runjumpthrow.com Saturday and Sunday.
Two-time Paralympic and six-time world champion Aled Davies is one of the standout names entered in a strong shot put field. The F42 world record holder is joined by British champion Amelia Strickler, who was fourth at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, and seven-time British Universities medallist Adele Nicoll.
On the track, sprinter and bobsleigh athlete Mica Moore is expected. Moore made the top eight at last year’s Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang and has been speaking about how she’s ‘defied barriers’ to make it in two different sports.
Charlotte Wingfield (above), the Maltese record holder over 60m, 100m and 200m, is also set to feature. Wingfield was her nation’s flag bearer at the Rio 2016 closing ceremony.
Facing them will be IAAF World Junior finalist Hannah Brier, who was part of the same 4x100m squad as Moore that made the final of the 2014 Commonwealth Games. She has a 60m personal best of 7.31s from 2017, which could make her the narrow favourite.
On the men’s side, defending 60m champion Sam Gordon competes after a strong twelve months in which he represented Great Britain at the Athletics World Cup in London last summer. Gordon beat European champion Harry Aikines-Aryeetey in the 2018 race with a 6.67 PB (header image).
There is also an Indoor Combined Events International Match taking place in the Welsh capital. World under 20 champion Niamh Emerson is involved, along with home favourite Ben Gregory, who has twice competed at the Commonwealths.
Meanwhile, a rising Welsh star is 18-year-old shot putter Sarah Omoregie, who was second at the 2017 Commonwealth Youth Games (below).
Another impressive junior is England under 20 400m hurdles champion Lauren Williams. She’s improved her PB over the flat by 2.5 seconds in two years and the 19-year-old will be hoping to kick off another season of good progress in Cardiff.
