Olympian Caster Semenya to marry fellow athlete

Olympic silver medallist Caster Semenya is in the spotlight, often for strange reasons.

But this news is more positive and straight-forward. The South African runner is getting married, according to a range of news outlets.

Semenya, who was at the forefront of legal and media battles over the question of her sexuality after winning gold in the 800 metres at 2009’s World Championships, is to marry her life-partner, Violet Raseboya.

It is believed that the two families of the athletes are due to meet and arrange ‘lobola’, the money paid towards the partner’s family for their hand in marriage.

The happy couple have been together for over two years now, and Semenya recently admitted “My fiancée comes first! I would have to save my fiancée. She’s the most important person in my life” when questioned on what she would save in her life.

The South African athlete is one of athletics most famous names, and has a host of admirers around the world for her ability and courage.

Semenya, who has tasted silver in both the 2011 Championships and the London 2012 Olympics, has rightly taken a backseat from the media hype which surrounded her five years ago and now is happy to simply settle down with someone she loves.

After all that turmoil, finally a happy ending.
