Every year, England Athletics hosts a Hall of Fame and Volunteer Awards Night, bringing together legends of the sport with unsung heroes.
In 2018, those entering the Hall of Fame include those who’ve achieved greatness at the highest level of track and field competition such as Olympic champion Dame Jessica Ennis-Hill, Sydney 2000 medallist Katharine Merry, and one of the most successful triple jump coaches ever, Aston Moore.

There’s also posthumous recognition for Tommy Green, who won gold in the race walk at the 1932 Olympic Games (below). You can hear from Tommy’s granddaughter Cheryl Hookway, who remembers him fondly and was delighted to accept the prize on his behalf.
Also featured are Team England’s captain at the Commonwealth Games, Tom Bosworth, the broadcaster Peter Matthews, Official of the Year Lynne Marr, and representatives from the Club of the Year Orion Harriers.
Coach Toni Minichiello was there in place of Ennis-Hill – who featured in the first episode of the podcast – while David Barnett of Track and Field Tours spoke about why they support the evening.
