European champion and Olympic and world medalist Christophe Lemaitre (below) leads the list of entries for this weekend’s 31st AtletiCAGenève Memorial Georges Caillat.
The French sprinter and national record holder goes in the 200m on Saturday afternoon and you can watch the whole meet live from Switzerland here on runjumpthrow.com and on RunnerSpace in North America.
As ever, the event will see some of the continents best on display including a strong contingent of British athletes. European bronze medalist Mujinga Kambundji is one of the favourites in the women’s 100m and she’ll be up against the rising French talent Carolle Zahi.
European indoor 60m champion Asha Philip is also expected in Geneva along with fellow Brits Daryll Neita, Bianca Williams and Jodie Williams. The latter – a Commonwealth and European silver medalist in 2014 – comes in to the event having run her fastest time since the 2016 Rio Olympic Games – 22.77 in California last weekend.
Also on the 200m list is British champion Shannon Hylton, the new Scottish record holder Beth Dobbin, BUCS champion Maya Bruney, Asheligh Nelson, Imani-Lara Lansiquot and Swiss sprinter Sarah Atcho.
On the men’s side, three quarters of the England quartet which won 4x100m gold at the Commonwealth Games, Richard Kilty, Harry Aikines-Aryeetey and Reuben Arthur all feature. But hottest on form is the reigning European under-23 champion Ojie Edoburun (below), who ran 10.04s in Prague on Monday. Another to watch will be Xie Zhenye. The 24-year-old from China has the same personal best as Edoburun and has run 10.17 so far this year.
AtletiCAGenève has often been kind to its home favourites. Léa Sprunger set a big personal best here in 2016 and she is down for both the 400m and 400m hurdles. Over the flat there’s set to be competition from Botswana’s Christina Botlogetswe, who has run 51.00s in 2018 along with Emily Diamond, Laviai Nielsen, Phil Healy, Lisanne De Witte, Cheriece Hylton, Laura Maddox and Hannah Williams.
Meghan Beesley joined Williams in taking 4x400m world indoor bronze in March and she’s likely to be one of Sprunger’s closest competitors over the hurdles, along with Italy’s Yadisleidy Pedroso, who was second at the Euroepan Team Championships behind Eilidh Doyle last year. Young Brits in the field include European under-23 silver medalist Jess Turner, and BUCS winner Georgie Rogers.
Talking of exciting British talent, Guernsey record holder Cameron Chalmers joins Martyn Rooney over the single lap for the men. They’ll do battle with European 4x400m champion Dylan Borlée of Belgium and Teddy Atine-Venel of France.
On a similarly exciting note, UK junior record holder Alicia Barrett and sprint hurdle colleague Yasmin Miller look set to race 2014 European silver medalist Cindy Billaud of France.
Elsewhere, Charlie Myers, who has managed the European Athletics Championships qualifying standard of 5.55m goes in the men’s pole vault. He looks to be equally matched with Switzerland’s Dominik Alberto, who reached the same height in February.
