Last week in Stanford saw the Diamond League come back with a bang as a host of thrilling encounters lit up the Prefontaine Classic.
This time, the famous Athletissima in Lausanne plays host to yet more of the sport’s top names, promising another set of thrilling clashes between fields stacked full of talent.
With the action set to take place on Friday evening, here’s how you can tune in to watch it all unfold.

The huge comeback of Olympic runner-up Andre De Grasse will face its toughest test yet, with the red hot Diamond Trophy winner Noah Lyles standing in his way in the men’s 200m. World champion Ramil Guliyev and African silver medallist Divine Oduduro will also make it a feisty encounter, as the very best half-lap runners in the world clash in a race not to be missed.
The women’s 100m is another mix of sprinting powerhouses as Blessing Okagbare looks to add to her win in Rabat when she takes on all-time great Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, double world champion Dafne Schippers and triple European gold medallist Dina Asher-Smith.
The world’s top two go head-to-head in the men’s 5000m with Trophy winner Selemon Barega and world leader Telahun Haile Bekele entering the fray. World champion Muktar Edris and Olympic runner up Paul Chelimo will also be forces to be reckoned with in a very competitive long distance showdown.
A victory in the mile race in Eugene has left Timothy Cheruiyot with the wind in his sails for the men’s 1500m. However, revenge will also be on the minds of Ayanleh Souleiman, Jakob and Filip Ingebrigtsen after they lost out to the world silver medallist, who will also contend with Kenyan rivals Bethwell Birgen and Vincent Kibet.
The men’s 110m hurdles remains as competitive as ever, with Orlando Ortega fresh from victory in Eugene. The likes of European champion Pascal Martinot-Lagarde and world indoor champion Andy Pozzi are always a threat and will make sure this race goes down to the wire.
Kenyans Emmanel Korir and Ferguson Cheruiyot Rotich will be fighting for a first Diamond League win this season in the men’s 800m, with Trophy winner Korir also having to face world indoor champion Adam Kszczot and the highly experienced Marcin Lewandowski in a packed two-lap encounter.
Continental Cup 400m winner Salwa Eid Naser has had it all her own way this season in her quest to retain her Diamond Trophy. It will be another tough battle against world and Olympic medallist Shericka Jackson.
After coming close this season, world 400m hurdles silver medallist Shamier Little aims for a first Diamond League victory since her win at this same venue last year. World champion Kori Carter will also be fighting for the win along with Doha runner up Ashley Spencer.
Field
The pulsating triple jump rivalry between Caterine Ibarguen and Yulimar Rojas will resume in Lausanne, with the double Trophy winner Ibarguen looking for another Diamond League victory this year after succeeding in Oslo.
However, world champion Rojas is once again in rampant form this season and will be expected to make a storming start to the Diamond League this season.
The big guns collide once again in the men’s pole vault as young prodigy Mondo Duplantis takes on big rival Sam Kendricks hoping to repeat his victory in Eugene last weekend.
Both will be watching out for world record holder Renaud Lavillenie, as well as Olympic champion Thiago Braz in another exciting pole vault tussle.
The utterly dominant Mariya Lasitskene is once again in action for the women’s high jump, with the world record in her sights as she aims to overcome competitors such as Yaroslava Mahuchikh and Iryana Gerashchenko.
The men’s long jump has been incredibly unpredictable this year and Lausanne looks to be no different, with world indoor champion Juan Miguel Echevarría, Shanghai winner Tajay Gayle and world champion Luvo Manyonga all fighting for the victory.
Defending diamond trophy winner Tatsiana Khaladovich has the chance to bag a first Diamond League victory this season in the women’s shot put after losing out to Huihui Lyu previosuly.
However, she will have strong competition in the form of European champion Christin Hussong and runner up Nikola Ogrodníková.
Breakthrough shot put star Chase Ealey has the chance to grab another victory. The experienced Christina Schwanitz will be a tough opponent to fight off, while Commonwealth champion Danniel Thomas-Dodd should make this a close and exciting match-up.
