FRED KERLEY EXPLAINS STEER TOWARDS ATHLETICS

World 4x400m silver medallist Fred Kerley has told the IAAF he used to be a big basketball and football player, but breaking his collarbone led him to his current track and field path.

IAAF ALLOWS CHANGES OF COUNTRY

The IAAF has also approved nation transfers for 10 athletes. President Sebastian Coe says the new rules allow those with a “genuine connection” to represent a different country “after appropriate checks and balances”.

WORRIES CAUSED BY POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS GRASS TRACK

A coach in Australia is concerned about injuries that could be picked up as a result of running on a substandard grass track. It’s hoped Bomaderry in New South Wales will soon have it’s own all-weather athletics track, but the local council is working out how it will fit around a croquet club, indoor stadium, and plans for a new swimming pool. The South Coast Register has this report.
