70-YEAR-OLD RUNS WORLD AGE GROUP RECORD FOR MARATHON
70-year-old Gene Dykes, who began distance running later in life, set a world record for his age group in a marathon in Jacksonville in Florida on Saturday.
Dykes ran 2:54:23, breaking the previous record set by the great Canadian runner Ed Whitlock by 25 seconds. More in Runner’s World.

WADA OFFICIALS IN MOSCOW TO SEE DATA
World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) experts are expected in Moscow today. They are hoping to be able to retrieve key laboratory data – a condition of Rusada’s reinstatement last month. BBC Sport has this report.
ASHER-SMITH MISSES OUT TO THOMAS
Part of a world class shortlist, Dina Asher-Smith missed out on the top prize at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award ceremony in Birmingham. Welsh cyclist and Tour de France winner Geraint Thomas won the award, while Dina said on Twitter than being a finalist “didn’t even feel real at the time”.

People who have died this year from the world of track and field were also remembered as part of the BBC Sports Personality of the Year awards. They include Sir Roger Bannister, the first man to break the four-minute mile barrier. Another, who isn’t on the list is Diane Leather Charles, the first woman to run a sub-five minute mile.

MAYER RECOUNTS POST WORLD RECORD PHONE CALL
The new decathlon world record holder Kevin Mayer says Ashton Eaton, who formerly held the best points tally, called him to say how proud he was of the Frenchman. Mayer has been speaking to IAAF.
EUROPEAN TEAM ANNOUNCED FOR GREAT STIRLING
Europe’s team for the Great Stirling XCountry has been revealed. It contains European under 23 steeplechase champion Anna-Emilie Møller and European indoor 3000m champion Adel Mechaal, among others. Read more from European Athletics here. The British team is also out.

England Athletics has released details of it’s road running and 10,000m track championships for 2019. There’ll also be a ‘Champions of the Road’ series, featuring high-profile races across a number of distances.
MARI SMITH RUNS 2:04 800M
As the early indoor season track meets get underway, British Universities’ champion Mari Smith ran 2:04.78 to win a mixed race at the BMC Sheffield Open.
The European Indoor qualifying standard is 2:03.00 and the British team will be announced on 17th February 2019. There’s a date for your diary!
