The Combined Events International Match in Cardiff (watch back here) saw Niamh Emerson emerge victorious. Her world-leading score of 4,544 put her fourth behind Katarina Johnson-Thompson, Jessica Ennis-Hill and Kelly Sotherton in the British all-time list. There were top performances from Brits across the board, while Jorge Ureña of Spain also set a world-leading mark in the heptathlon.

ASHA PHILIP WORLD LEAD AHEAD OF EURO INDOOR DEFENCE
Asha Philip ran an impressive 7.12s in Dortmund at the PSD-Bank Indoor Meeting Dortmund as Kristal Awuah clocked a 7.30 lifetime best to open up her season.
BRITISH ISLES ON FORM IN BOSTON
Andy Butchart returned following injury at the New Balance Grand Prix in Boston, where he finished fourth in the 3000m. In the 800m, Guy Learmonth set a new indoor lifetime best of 1:46.98, while Lynsey Sharp finished second in the 600m in 1:29.11. Chris O’Hare was one place behind Butchart in a PB of 7:47.78 in a race won by Olympic and world medallist Hagos Gebrhiwet. Find results here and there’s a round-up in The Herald.

ZOEY CLARK IMPRESSES IN GLASGOW
Hoping to compete at the European Indoors in the same city, Zoey Clark ran five races in a day to pick up silver and gold medals at the Scottish Athletics Indoor Championships. The London 2017 4x400m runner-up ran a 7.58 60m and 23.6 200m. Guernsey’s Commonwealth Games runner Cameron Chalmers won the men’s 400m in 47.84 ahead of his brother Alistair. MCLAUGHLIN MAKES PRO DEBUT
Meanwhile, also in Boston, young American starlet Sydney McLaughlin ran a 1:09.4 world lead 500m on her professional debut. The 19-year-old from New Jersey is the world junior record holder over the 400m hurdles (52.75), along with the 300m and 400m indoors (36.12 and 50.36).

WORLD TRAIL TEAM ANNOUNCED
British Athletics have announced 12 athletes who’ll be part of the squad for the International Association of Ultrarunners and International Trail Running Association (IAU/ITRA) World Championships in Portugal in June. It includes 2018 World Masters Mountain Running champion Andrew Davies.

Reigning Olympic marathon champion Jemima Sumgong has had her ban doubled by the IAAF’s Athletics Integrity Unit after she’s said to have provided fake medical documents and lied about where she was.
