DAILY MAIL QUESTIONS ATHLETICS WORLD CUP

The Daily Mail  has recorded a damning verdict on the Athletics World Cup, held for the first time in London in the summer. Among the criticisms it cites is that the event took place on the same weekend as the FIFA World Cup final and that some big names did not take part.

The article does not include a statement in the defence of the organisers, but it does make clear that former UK Athletics Chief Executive Niels de Vos wasn’t concerned by no-shows, having said at the time: “We always knew that a couple of athletes wouldn’t be able to make it because they had signed contracts for Diamond League events.”
