Jack Green reveals thoughts behind Florida relocation

After announcing his return to the track on Twitter earlier this week, Jack Green exclusively spoke to Vinco Sport about his future training set-up in Florida.

The 22-year-old declared he would be taking a break from the sport at the end of 2013, but his departure from 400m hurdles was never a permanent move, he revealed: “The plan was to always return to the track at some point, I just didn’t know when that would be.”

The Kent-born athlete will embark his journey back to the track under the watchful eye of Loren Seagrave – a world renowned speed and conditioning coach. The American’s impressive resumé speaks for itself, and heavily swayed Green’s decision to relocate to the States.

The 2012 London Olympian said: “I went over to Florida during the year to meet Loren, his training group and see what the facilities were like.

“Loren is well known as one of the best sprints and hurdles coaches around and worked with Angelo Taylor who won two Olympics in my event. We got on well and that made it an easy decision to work with him in Florida.”

If it weren’t for Seagrave’s stature and track record in the sport Green would have “happily” avoided the trip across the pond, but the athlete’s offer in Florida was simply too good to turn down.

The 22-year-old will live and train in Florida during off-season, to work with Seagrave’s group and maximise his training, but once the 2015 outdoor season arrives he will base himself either at home, in Kent, or in Europe with the rest of his group.

With Olympic and World Championships on the horizon Green’s comeback could be perfectly timed, but he insists they had little influence on his return: “The Worlds and Olympics didn’t have much sway on my return. It wasn’t about that, it was about sorting myself out and wanting to run again.

“Obviously I still believe I can achieve great things but I have a better perspective of things and simply want to enjoy what I do.”
