A teenager from Germany has broken the world record for running the fastest 100 metres in heels.
Julia Plecher took to the track in sparkling gold heels, and with a time of 14.531 seconds, earned herself a place in the 2014 edition of the Guinness World Record books.
This was not the 18-year-olds first attempt at running in her evening wear, though.
In 2009, Julia took part in a ‘stiletto run’ in Central Berlin with shoes 1.5 centimetres higher than required, and still won the race.
Racing in heels might seem like an odd concept, but apparently it goes on more than we would have thought.
In 2010, four Australian women set a world record for the fastest 4×100 metre relay ran in heels.
The quartet were required to wear shoes no shorter than seven centimetres. Between them, they completed the distance in one minute 4.19 seconds.
Continuing with the weird and wonderful, a world record was set in 2010 for the farthest distance ran on a treadmill, by a team, in one hour.
A team of 50 girls simultaneously completed the challenge on individual treadmills, racking up a total of 165.04 miles after 60 minutes.
