Mo Farah has revealed that he is to open his 2015 campaign at the Diamond league in Doha on May 15.
Farah will contest the 3,000m, with a personal best of seven minutes 33.1 seconds set earlier this year, perhaps an event a little shorter than his preferred 5,000m and 10,000m, he is sure to lay down a mark for his competitors to chase.
The British double European, World and Olympic champion has already shown his fine form this season having controversially broken the European half marathon record and breaking the World Record for two-miles indoors in Birmingham in February.
As with many of Farah’s races, it won’t be a straightforward one. Perhaps his main rival will be Caleb Ndiku, the Kenyan Commonwealth 5,000m champion and World indoor 3,000m champion. Only once previously have the two raced head-to-head and it proved an enticing affair, with Farah taking the British 1,500m record and win over Ndiku in Monaco in 2013.
Amongst the rest of the world-class field will be World indoor 5,000m silver medalist, Hagos Gebrhiwet and Doha Diamond league 3,000m record holder, Yenew Alamirew.
Farah tweeted ahead of the clash: “Looking forward to Doha Diamond League…!!”

It is yet to be announced whether Alberto Salazar’s athlete will contest the full Diamond league series this season but with the World Championships in Beijing rapidly approaching, this event on May 15 could be a preview of what to expect.
