Farah looking to pick up from where he left off in Birmingham

Double Olympic, world and European champion Mo Farah has confirmed that he will compete at the Sainsbury’s Indoor Grand Prix in Birmingham on 21 February 2015.

The 31-year-old athlete will bid to take the 5,000m and 10,000m double at the 2015 World Championships, replicating the feat achieved at the 2012 London Olympics, 2013 World Championships and 2014 European Championships.

“I’m really looking forward to competing at the Sainsbury’s Indoor Grand Prix,” Farah said. “It is without doubt one of the best indoor events in the world and I’ve got great memories of setting three British records here over the years.”

Farah – who has had victories at the event in 2007, 2009, 2011 and 2013 – has stated that he’s looking to continue his winning streak in front of the Birmingham crowd.

“My last track race was in Birmingham in August at the Sainsbury’s Birmingham Grand Prix where I finished my track year with a win over 2 miles, so it would be great to start 2015 in the same way in front of the amazing crowd” said Farah.

“It’s set to be an amazing event and it will be great to see where my fitness is at. 2015 is a big year for me as I’ll be defending my 5,000m and 10,000m world championship titles. It would be great to get the year off to a strong start and put on a good show for the athletics fans in Birmingham.”

British Athletics’ Major Events Director Cherry Alexander said: “Mo is one of our greatest ever athletes and we’re delighted that he will be competing once again at the Sainsbury’s Indoor Grand Prix. It is athletes like Mo that make this the best indoor athletics event in the world and this year’s event will yet again be one of the highlights of the indoor season.”
