Mo Farah has set the fastest time of the year in the 10,000m as he emerged victorious in the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene.
The double Olympic chamion posted a time of 26:50:97, beating his closest challenger Paul Kipngetich of Kenya by 0.89 seconds.
“My training’s been going pretty well, so I knew that if it came down to the kick towards the end, I was going to win that race,” Farah told BBC Sport.
But at the same time, I wanted to run fast.”
Despite running a world leading time, Farah failed to beat his own European record by four second, and was very critical of the pacemaker from preventing him from doing so:
“The pacemakers the first couple of laps were spot on, then it slowed down a lot,” Farah added.
“I was trying to push the pacemakers along. It was hard, leading out myself.”
World Junior Champion Yomif Kejelcha put in the performance of the evening in the 5,000m. The Ethiopian set a world leading time of 13:10:54, smashing his personal best in the process.
Also in action stateside were British long jumpers Lorraine Ugen and Shara Proctor, who finished third and fourth respecively in their Diamond League event. America Tianna Bartoletta jumped a world leading 7.11 metres.
Another American was victorious in front of the home crowd, as world leader Joe Kovacs defeated world champion David Storl in the men’s Shot Put with a best throw of 22.12m.
2014 Diamond League Discus champion Piotr Malachowski racked up his second league win of the season with a throw of 65.59m. Compatriot Robert Urbanek came second, throwing just 17 short of Malachowski.
