Former British athletics stars Dwain Chambers and Andy Turner will be competing against each other tonight in a celebrity boxing event known as Celebrity Boxfest at Troxy, a venue in East London.
Celebrity Boxfest is taking place in aid of the charities Young Minds and a Night For Jayla, the former being a mental health charity and the latter being in aid of children with various illnesses.
European and Commonwealth sprint hurdles champion Andy Turner cites the charity aspect as one of his motives for taking part in the event, although he has also developed a keen interest and enjoyment in boxing after initially competing in a similar event called Boxing With The Stars three months ago after only doing one week of training for it.
However, Turner told Vinco that he’ll be far more prepared this time, thanks to three months of training, which has comprised of boxing three or four days a week and doing gym work on other days. Despite this, Turner still admits it will be “weird fighting Dwain” and “punching him in the face will be surreal” as the UK 60m record holder Chambers was someone he looked up to as a young athlete.
The pair will be competitive in the ring nonetheless, but Turner is hoping neither of them come out of the fight too badly bruised, especially as he plans to do some more boxing in the future.
