The small England Athletics team that performed over the weekend had great success at the Bermuda Running Festival in Hamilton, the capital of the Territory.

In the one mile road race for elite female athletes Charlotte Arter (Club: Cardiff AC, Coach: James Thie) finished 4th (4 min 50.0 sec) and Faye Fullerton (Club: Havering, coach Georgina Fullerton) finished 5th (4 min 53.3) in what proved to be a really great tactical and close race won by Heather Kampf of the USA.

The following day saw the Men’s 10k and some of the worst storms during the race causing almost impossible conditions. It was won by Jordan Chipangama of Zambia in a time of 31 min 23 sec with Nick Swinburn (Club: Morpeth, Coach: Lindsay Dunn) just being caught on the line to finish in 3rd place with a time of 31 min 48 sec and Jacob Allen (Club: Rugby & Northampton, Coach: Mick Woods) finishing a good 5th in 33 min 52 sec.

The women’s 10k race was run in with the men in the same conditions with another fine performance by Faye Fullerton taking the title in 35 mins 37 sec and a fine run by Charlotte Arter who finished in 35 mins 48 sec to take second place.

This team all performed really well and carried the English Flag with distinction. They were presented to the Premier of Bermuda and the Minister for Sport for the Island.

England Team manager Geoff James presented an Athletics Workshop to an audience of 70 to 80 Coaches and Athletes – together with several invited USA speakers including former 5000m/10000m British International star of the 80s Geoff Smith. Geoff James presented the work being carried out by England Athletics with the NCDP and its success story to date. The workshop was well received, and thought-provoking for those present.
