England Athletics is pleased to announce national 10,000m track championships will be held in 2014 as part of the Highgate Harriers Night of the 10,000m PBs.
The races will take place on 10 May 2014 at the Parliament Hill Athletics Track, NW5 1QR, London.
England Athletics Head of Competitions Andy Day, “This will be the first time that England Athletics has held specific national 10,000m championships on the track and we are pleased to be giving our endurance athletes an opportunity to contest national titles at this distance.
“You only have to look at the results of last year’s Highgate Harriers Night of the 10,000m PBs to see how many athletes seized the opportunity to compete over 25 laps in this event and came away with personal bests or season’s bests.
“We will be working with race organiser Ben Pochee and Highgate Harriers to ensure another great event for all the athletes involved. This will include having a number of pacemakers in the races to help give the athletes the best possible opportunity of clocking good times.”
Race organiser Ben Pochee said, “Highgate Harriers and myself welcome the incorporation of England Athletics National Championships into our annual event. The Night of the 10,000m PBs was created with twin aims of providing higher competition to more athletes whilst making 25 lap racing aspirational once more, and we’re confident the England Athletics National Championships will superbly assist both these aims.”
The 10,000m will be held under UKA rules with target PB pace support, chip timing and music. As per UKA rules, this event will be restricted to U20 age groups and above.
