The England team selected for the Loughborough International Athletics match this weekend looks to provide some exciting and action packed athletics. England have had an excellent record against the teams from Loughborough, Wales, Scotland, GB & NI Juniors, and British Universities over the past few years.
The England team includes many successful Commonwealth Games athletes and top ranked performers.
In the 100m Montell Douglas (Club: Blackheath & Bromley/ Brunel Uni, Coach: Michael Afilaka) is returning to track where she set the British Record in 2008, which still stands. But it is the 200m that is set to be the highlight of the day for the England team with Enfield & Haringey sprinters Margaret Adeoye (Coach: Linford Christie) and Chijindu Ujah (Coach: Jonas Tawiah-Dodoo) ready to set the track alight.
English Commonwealth Games stars include relay medallist Kelly Massey (Club: Sale Harriers Manchester/ Liverpool John Moores, Coach: Stephen Ball), high jumper Bethan Partridge (Club: Birchfield H/ Birmingham Uni, Coach: Aston Moore), triple jumper Chioma Matthews (Club: Blackheath & Bromley, Coach: Frank Attoh) silver medallist and England team stalwart Luke Cutts (Club: The Dearne ALC/ City of Sheffield, Coach: Trevor Fox) and bronze medallist Jade Lally (Club: Shaftesbury Barnet, Coach: Andy Neal) who has returned from warm weather training with hopes to throw the discus over 60m this year.
Our two hammer throwers have excellent pedigrees; number one ranked Sophie Hitchon (Club: Blackburn, Coach: Tore Gustafsson) is a 70m plus thrower and Nick Miller (Club: Border/ Oklahoma State Uni, Coach: John Baumann) threw just shy of 77m this month. Eden Francis (Club: Birchfield H, Coach: Glenys Morton) will hope to clear 17m again in the shot put and also ranked number one Scott Lincoln (Club: City of York/Liverpool H, Coach: Paul Wilson) set a new PB in Eton last week.
We have two superb athletes competing for England in the Long Jump; Jazmin Sawyers (Club: City of Stoke/ Bristol Uni) is Commonwealth silver medallist and fresh from victory at the Manchester Great CityGames and a win at BUCS, and rising star Dan Bramble (Club: Shaftesbury Barnet, Coach: Frank Attoh) is the current Indoor British Championship and CityGames medallist.
Back on the track, BUCS champion Jamie Webb (Club: Liverpool H/ Manchester Metropolitan Uni, Coach: Adrian Webb) runs for England in the 800m, and last year’s 1500m winner and European Championships competitor Alison Leonard (Club: Blackburn/ Birmingham Uni, Coach: Bud Baldaro) will be running her first outdoor 1500m of the season. Serita Solomon (Club: Blackheath & Bromley/ Middlesex Uni, Coach: Michelle Bovell) has had a fantastic indoor season and hopes to transfer those times across this summer.

National Coach Mentor and England Team Leader for the event Tony Hadley said, “I am delighted that England have been able to select a predominantly young team with a view to developing athletes towards the next Commonwealth Games in 2018. It is a great indicator that there is excellent depth showing in many events. It promises to be an exciting day to launch the new England kit supported by New Balance.”
