Two-time European Indoor Champion Richard Kilty has within the hour received a special invite from European Athletics to compete in Glasgow next week.

The news comes after British Athletics released their record 48 strong team after the Müller Birmingham Grand Prix just last weekend, which only featured one male 60m sprinter, Ojie Edoburun (Shaftesbury Barnet).

There has been some controversy as to the team selection, and just two days ago Niamh Emerson was the 49th athlete to make the British team, after receiving an invite to compete in the pentathlon by European Athletics.

She set a personal best of 4544 in the pentathlon at the Combined Events International in Cardiff in January, proving she is on top form to compete.

Richard has also been working hard to get back on top form, and his 6.63 clocking in Birmingham last weekend was proof of that. He finished in 6th place in the final but has been working tirelessly to get back to his best, so this invitation demonstrates his efforts aren’t going unnoticed!

Let’s see what he can do in Glasgow next week!
