Double World silver medalist Christian Coleman has smashed the long-standing indoor 60m World Record.
The American sprinter ran 6.37 in his season opener at a meet in Clemson, South Carolina.
Coleman’s time breaks the previous best of 6.39 set by Maurice Green in 1998, subject to IAAF ratification.
It also significantly improves his previous indoor best of 6.45.
Coleman took to social media to share is delight in breaking the record.

He later posted a picture on his instagram showing him driving to be drug tested after the record-breaking-run
“I’m in disbelief,” said Coleman’s coach Tim Hall. “This was his season opener. It was totally unexpected.
“We talked a little bit more before the final and like I always tell him, I said: ‘Relax, no pressing and allow the run to happen.’ That was the result.”
The 21-year-old exploded onto the international athletics scene in 2017, when he ran a world best 9.82 at an NCAA competition.
He later went on to win World Championship silver in both the 100m and 4x100m relay in London
