Usain Bolt opened up his 2015 campaign today with a fairly mediocre 10.12 seconds by his standards in the Mano a Mano race in Rio de Janeiro.

Multiple World and Olympic sprint champion Bolt was matched to seventy metres by American Ryan Bailey before pulling away to take the less than convincing win.

“My preparation is going well, today the start was not good, but I will be getting there, I just need more races” said Bolt for TV Globo after his race.

The 100 and 200m world record holder tweeted after his race, “Working in progress”.

Ryan Bailey took second place in 10.24 seconds, with Jose Carlos Moreira third in 10.51 and Churandy Martina fourth in 10.53.

In a hotly contested women’s race, Veronica Campbell-Brown took top spot in 11.04, with Carmelita Jeter in second with 11.15, Kerron Stewart third in 11.30 and Vitoria Rosa fourth in 11.59.

American Paralympic athlete Richard Browne won his race in a time of 10.88.

Bolt’s next competition should be at the IAAF World Relays in Nassau, Bahamas in the 4x100m relay for Jamaica, followed by Diamond League appearances in Paris, Lausanne and New York.
