At just 40 years old former British 800m record holder Mark Sesay has sadly passed away.
Sesay was an 800m phenomenon in his teenage years and was the first of only two teenagers to dip under the one minute 50 second mark for the 800m as an under 17, a record he held onto until last year.
The Loughborough University athlete’s evident talent lead him to be dubbed the next Sebastian Coe, and he went on to record a personal best of 1.45.68 in 1999, aged 26.
Sesay’s two lap speed earned him 800m glory at the UK Championships and a spot in Great Britain team for the 1999 World Championships in Seville, Spain.
Sesay retired from the sport over a decade ago, but remained in touch with the sport and fellow athletes.
