In the opening events of the European Athletics Championships in 2022 athletes took to the streets of Munich to battle it out in the marathon.
Following hours of competition, two worthy winners crossed the finish line first to secure European glory.
Up first, Poland’s Aleksandra Lisowska was an unstoppable force, winning a well deserved gold in the women’s marathon.
Home advantage came into play in the men’s marathon, won by Germany’s Richard Ringer. Powering home in the final 100m to claim an amazing victory, creating a magical moment for the fans in attendance.
