McKENZIE RIVER, Ore. — With the World Athletics Championships Oregon22 starting this week, several communities in our area are serving as training camps for different countries competing at Hayward Field.
Paul McNamara, Athletics Ireland Director of High Performance:
“I think when we roll on into Eugene, the welcome we have had here, which I’m not beating around the bush, I think the guys have enjoyed this camp more than any camp they’ve ever been on,”
Mark English, who has competed in four World Championships and is soaking up every moment of Oregon’s scenery said:
“It’s cool, lots of wilderness. Lots of wildlife about. Brilliant running trails, brilliant weather. It’s very therapeutic just even waking up and seeing the countryside, it’s really nice,” he tells us.
Team Ireland has 21 athletes in town for Oregon22.
